Lynn Valley Centre is revising a reviled ticketing policy, according to mall management.
Shortly before Christmas, two shoppers were ticketed $25 for violating the mall’s three hour parking policy.
Roxanne Davies found a $25 ticket on her windshield after she was parked for a total of 45 minutes – 15 minutes to drop off library books and 30 minutes later in the day to shop at Safeway. The trips occurred over a span of more than three hours.
After getting no help from mall administration, Easy Park allowed Davies to talk her way out of the ticket “for one time only,” she stated.
“We all like nice surprises at Christmas. This was not one of them,” she wrote.
Lynn Valley pensioner Dale Courquin was told there are “no in/out parking privileges,” after he protested a $25 fine.
While Courquin’s fine was also forgiven, he lost “a couple of hours of my time dealing with this nonsense,” he wrote.
“It’s a complete error,” said shopping centre manager Lorelei Guthrie. “We’ve now stopped issuing those types of tickets just in case it’s folks that come and go.”
If a customer is unjustly ticketed, Guthrie said the best practice is to bring the grievance to her.
“Come to me and I’ll gladly waive it,” she said.
The mall will continue to be “vigilant” on transit users who park and ride at the mall as well as employees from other establishments who park there for the day, Guthrie said.
