What would newspaper ads look like if they were designed by kids?
That question is the driving force behind one of our favourite North Shore News annual traditions, the Kids Design Your Ads feature.
Every year we bring local businesses together with schools for an interesting exercise in community building and creative learning, allowing students to design ads to run in the paper.
This year we brought in creative kids from West Vancouver's Chartwell Elementary and Gleneagles Ch'axáý Elementary and North Vancouver's Ecole Cleveland Elementary, Queensbury Elementary and Seymour Heights Elementary.
To help with the project, students in grades 4-7 were given a crash course in marketing and advertising by North Shore News staff members and then paired with local advertisers who provided the kids with creative briefs to get the ideas flowing.
Each advertiser picked winning entries to run in the North Shore News print edition, and all of the student designs are up on our website.
A big thank you is owed to the teachers who led the projects at their respective schools: Kathleen Baker at Seymour Heights, TJ Turenne at Cleveland, Taylor McIntyre and Angela Foster at Gleneagles, Brittany Macklam at Chartwell and Helen Chambers at Queensbury.
