Carlota Lee is typically gearing up for the Odlum Brown VanOpen tennis tournament this time of year, but in 2023 she's turning her attention to fundraising for women with Parkinson's.

Looking for a way to support the wonderful women in your life? This Mother’s Day, you can show your appreciation by strapping on some sporty shoes and joining the SuperMom Walk/Run for Women with Parkinson’s.

The event starts at 9 a.m. sharp on Sunday at The Boat Shed Ambleside, located at the site of the former beach concession stand in West Vancouver.

Hosting the SuperMom Walk/Run is Carlota Lee, who has dedicated herself to building up the local tennis community, which has included turning the Odlum Brown VanOpen at Hollyburn Country Club into a world class tournament.

While typically she’d be gearing up for the tourney at this time of year, in 2023 she’s putting on the SuperMom event to raise more awareness for Parnkinson’s disease and to continue her fundraising efforts for women living with the illness.

“The SuperMom Walk/Run for Women for Parkinson's is a beautiful opportunity for us to come together, have fun and raise critical funds for Parkinson Canada,” she said in a statement. “My goal for this event is $40,000!” As of Saturday afternoon, nearly $38,000 had been raised.

Parkinson Canada is an organization that advocates on issues important to the Parkinson’s community to all levels of government. Parkinson Canada’s research program funds research to search for better treatments and a cure.

Lee was an active marathon runner and fundraiser for many years, but her life changed in 2019 when she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s.

“Since my diagnosis everything I do is slower, and I have had to adjust to new limitations.,” she said. “But despite these challenges, I remain committed to ensuring that doing what I can to support women with Parkinson’s. That's why I am inviting you to join me on Mother's Day – it would mean the world to me to have you by my side as we walk together for this incredible cause.”

There will be breakfast and snacks at the event, and winners will be announced for completing the five and 10 kilometre races.
