What's the rudest part of Metro Vancouver?

More than 20 per cent of people thought the City of Vancouver was the rudest part of Vancouver, but it wasn't first or second.

Richmond is the rudest city in Metro Vancouver, according to a Vancouver Is Awesome poll.

Recently a national survey suggested Coquitlam is one of the rudest places in the country.

Not far behind was Surrey.

To find out what Vancouverites thought of the idea, V.I.A. has run a poll asking what the rudest large municipality in Metro Vancouver is. Included were all the cities inside the metro regional district that have around 90,000 residents or more (the City and District of North Vancouver were grouped together).

Of the nine areas there was a clear split between the areas in the running for rudest place, and those that weren't.

Three cities carried about 80 per cent of the vote, but there was a winner (of a sort). Nearly one-third of respondents voted Richmond the rudest city in the area. It was the winner both for people in and out of the area.

Like in the national survey, Surrey was in the running. This time it was second, with around 27 per cent of the vote. Here there was a bit of a difference between locals and out-of-towners, with people from outside the area more often considering Surrey the rudest place in the metro area.

Third place was Vancouver; notably, locals were more likely to consider Vancouver rude. In either case, more than 20 per cent of people thought the City of Vancouver was the rudest part of Vancouver.

The City and District of North Vancouver, which were grouped together, placed a distant fourth with around 7.5 per cent.

Of the bottom five, Coquitlam and Burnaby were considered the rudest parts of Metro Vancouver by a few people, while Maple Ridge also got some votes. Delta and Langley, arguably the most rural areas included in the poll, barely had any votes at all.

Vancouver Is Awesome polled 1179 readers and asked the question: What's the rudest large municipality in Metro Vancouver?
