Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement ahead of a windstorm Friday night.
A Pacific frontal system is forecast to bring strong southeast winds near 60 kilometres per hour to B.C.'s south coast. The powerful winds, which could gust up to 80 km/h, should commence just after midnight in the Straight of Georgia.
The high winds are expected to ease early Saturday morning.
Locals should brace for possible power outages, and high winds breaking tree branches, said the federal weather agency.
An atmospheric river soaked the Lower Mainland on election day (Oct. 19), bringing over 150 mm of rain to cities across the region. Flooding prevented BC Hydro crews from accessing some areas where customers lost power.
The forecast includes more wet weather this weekend, although rainfall amounts are expected to be significantly less and won't meet warning criteria.
