Mild temperatures dominated the end of 2023 but Metro Vancouver's weather forecast includes some frosty temperatures to kick off the new year.
Starting on Tuesday, Jan. 2, most places across the region are seeing temperatures well above seasonal averages. V.I.A.'s Trout Lake Weatherhood station in Vancouver shows a high of 9 C and a low of 6 C overnight, while Richmond City Centre shows a high of 7 C and a low of 5 C.
The Burnaby West neighbourhood is expected to have a high of 8 C with temperatures falling to a low of 5 C overnight. Port Coquitlam is expected to see temperatures climb to 9 C, falling to a low of 6 C.
The average high for Jan. 2 in Metro Vancouver is 5.7 C with a low of 0.3 C, based on historical climate data from Environment Canada.
Tuesday is also expected to be wet, with periods of rain continuing through the day; there is also a 30 per cent chance of showers on Wednesday.
Thursday and Friday may see significant rainfall, with amounts totalling 10 mm and 20 mm, respectively.

Milder temperatures should continue through Friday but Saturday night is expected to see a shift to colder conditions. Following this, Sunday is expected to see temperatures dip down to freezing or lower across the region; there is also a chance for snow flurries in the current seven-day forecast.
In Vancouver's Trout Lake neighbourhood, for example, temperatures should dip down to freezing overnight, while Richmond may see them dip down a bone-chilling -6 C.
While Monday, Jan. 8 is expected to be slightly milder, some places, including Richmond and Burnaby, may see flurries.
