Re: District council pushes for safer, slower and less snarled North Van roads
Dear Editor,
I’m glad to hear this is getting attention.
I’ve never understood why Mt. Seymour Parkway is 60 km/hr. Perhaps to support park visitors? Why the rush?
Most people miss that eastbound. It switches to 50 at Mt Seymour Road (Parkgate), so they speed down the hill and continue blasting south on Dollarton Hwy.
Oddly, I have not been able to find a speed limit sign on the westbound side, which means it’s technically 50 in that direction, which would be very odd and everyone assumes 60, which really turns out to be 70-80.
And all this with a shared bike lane. The party continues as people blast up Mt. Seymour Road as though they have some special recreation rights. Then they blast down again to their apré whatever.
Completely disrespectful of area residents, lower Seymour hikers, etc. Dollarton Hwy from Mt. Seymour Parkway to Dollar Rd is a wide-open view, slight hill and people speed all the time.
It’s posted as 50, but 70 is not uncommon.
Also a shared bike lane, but much narrower. Many cycling commuters, road cyclists, and visitors; sketchy and not bike-family friendly at all!
I think lowering the speed on Mt. Seymour Parkway would reduce confusion and possibly help the whole area to slow down, at least southbound Dollarton Hwy, but maybe not northbound.
Pleased to see that the 40 zone through the reservation has been extended past Ravenwoods. Wouldn’t hurt to slow people down all the way to Dollar Road given the narrow, shared bike lane and proximity to Cate’s Park.
