Dug up wire might have caused large power outage in Vancouver

Power to 33,000 people has been restored on Monday morning after a large outage in Vancouver.

BC Hydro electricians were able to get power back to people just before 10:30 a.m. 

A spokesperson says crews are still investigating why the outage took place “but it appears that a wire may have been dug up.”

Tens of thousands of people living in Vancouver are experiencing a power outage on Monday morning. 

BC Hydro confirms 33,000 people are without power as of 9:45 a.m. 

The outage started around 9 a.m. and extends to many neighbourhoods in East Vancouver and south of 41st Avenue. 

"We have electricians en route to our Mainwaring Substation to complete repairs as one of our circuits are out,” says a BC Hydro spokesperson.

Power is expected to be restored by 10:30 a.m., according to staff.
