Karen Parry, the owner of Industry Grooming Lounge, was disheartened to learn that her barber shop had been the target of a theft just a couple of weeks before the anniversary of its establishment.

“A neighbour told us about a month and a half ago that they saw someone trying to steal our barber pole but shooed them away. After that, I started bringing the pole in every night. Eventually, I thought it might have been a one-off incident, so I left it out again. This morning (May 31), a client asked where the barber pole was. When I looked outside, I realized it had been stolen.”

This recent theft is the latest of several unusual, prank-like incidents occurring on the North Shore. First, Red Lion Bar & Grill’s signature statues were stolen in West Vancouver, and then Lindi Smith’s beloved chicken, Snowflake, was snatched in North Vancouver.

“I don’t think it’s just young hooligans. The thieves had to get high up to unplug the pole. But if it was a prank, I want to tell the pranksters that this is really lame. We’re a small business in our first year, and everything counts for us,” Parry said.

Anyone with information on the stolen barber pole is asked to call the barber shop at 236-481-0944 or message her on Instagram @industrygroomingvan.
