Locals looking to set the mood for the Hallmark holiday of love can take part in an eclectic photo shoot on Vancouver Island.
Hotel Zed in breathtaking Tofino offers a beautiful setting to capture romantic moments in a boudoir-esque photo shoot.
The hotel is returning with its Nooner package for B.C. lovers this Valentine's Day, designed to bring couples of all genders and proclivities on a romantic rendezvous to the retro-chic hotel. The Nooner package includes a new treat this year, however. The "Shaggin' Wagon" – a 1978 Chevrolet G20 Conversion Van decorated with Cupid's touch -- offers the ideal backdrop to immortalize magical moments with your valentine in the forests of Tofino.
ROAR Tofino, located onsite in the Hotel Zed Lobby, is also offering an “Apres Nooner” afternoon happy hour from noon until 5 p.m., which will include a $69 feature platter including chocolate-covered strawberries, freshly shucked oysters, and other goodies "to get your motor running." Couples can also unwind with an Afternoon Delight gin cocktail feature.
The Shaggin’ Wagon-themed photo opportunities are also available in the lobby of the Hotel Zed properties in Kelowna and Victoria.
“Hotel Zed’s Nooner has always been about rebelling against boring Valentine’s Day traditions and having fun,” said Mandy Farmer, president and CEO of Hotel Zed and Accent Inns. “Nothing represents the 70s better than the iconic Shag Wagon, so we thought why not? It was a vehicle that pushed the boundaries of what was acceptable at the time. It rebelled against the ordinary.
“This year’s Nooner Shaggin’ Wagon deal encourages sex-positivity, encourages others to start the conversation,” said Farmer. “We recognize the countless forms of sexuality and expression as a natural and healthy part of being a human being.”
Guest who snap a photo with the Shaggin’ Wagon in Tofino or in one of the Hotel Zed lobbies, and post on social media using the hashtag #ZedShagginWagon, Hotel Zed will donate $1 to Good Night Out, a non-profit society focused on sexual violence prevention through education.
“It’s important that as we talk about sex, we also talk about consent,” Farmer says. “We are supporters of Good Night Out year-round and they are providing information on consent through posters cards and stickers at all of our Shaggin’ Wagons.”
The Valentine’s Day Nooner package also includes a lunch between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Packages start at $69 for 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. To extend the romance, splurge on an overnight stay for $79 in Kelowna, $89 in Victoria, and $149 in Tofino.
