UPDATED: Stolen car involved in head-on collision that shut down Sea to Sky Highway

Highway 99 has reopened after being shut in both directions north of Porteau Cove

The Sea to Sky Highway north of Porteau Cove has been fully reopened after a serious head-on collision shut down traffic both ways and sent two drivers to hospital.

RCMP say that one of the cars involved in the crash was stolen, and say its driver sustained serious and potentially critical injuries.  Police do not know the extent of injuries of the other driver, and Squamish RCMP continue their investigation.

On Nov. 2, just before 9 a.m., officers say they were informed of a collision on Highway 99, north of Porteau Cove.

Squamish RCMP closed Highway 99 in both north and south directions for the police investigation, and the highway closure lasted a few hours as the Integrated Analysis and Reconstruction Service, or ICARS, assisted.

ICARS is called in to investigate car collisions where serious, often life-threatening harm occurs.

Officers are asking anyone with any information regarding the crash to contact the Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100, or, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or go to www.solvecrime.ca
