Police are investigating a Canada Day stabbing where the victim and suspect are believed to know each other.

Ridge Meadows RCMP responded to the stabbing in the 1800-block of 224th at 4:30 p.m. on July 1.

Const. Tisha Parsons says the victim at the scene was suffering from stab wounds and was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A male suspect has been arrested and remains in custody until his next court appearance.

"Police believe this to be a targeted incident given that it occurred between parties who were known to each other,” says Parsons. "It is believed that there is no further threat to public safety at this time.”

The Serious Crimes Unit has taken over the ongoing investigation.
