Numerous B.C. weather alerts have been issued for over the next 24 hours as heavy rain, freezing rain and snow are expected.
A rainfall warning was issued by Environment Canada on Dec. 17 at 5 a.m. for the Fraser Valley, Vancouver Island, Howe Sound, Metro Vancouver and Southern Gulf Islands.
"A moisture-laden Pacific frontal system will bring rain to the South Coast,” says a meteorologist.
At times, the rain is expected to be heavy and will taper off early Wednesday morning.
On the west coast of Vancouver Island, 100 mm of rain is expected. East Vancouver Island and the Southern Gulf Islands can expect 50 mm of rain.
A total of 50 to 70 mm of rain is expected in Metro Vancouver, central Fraser Valley and Howe Sound.
The Fraser Valley will receive two to four centimetres of snow and 40 to 50 mm of rain.
"High flows and localized flooding are possible, particularly at lower elevations and in areas with poor drainage,” says a meteorologist.

There is also a snowfall warning in place for Whistler and Pemberton on Dec. 17 with 20 to 25 cm expected into Wednesday morning.
"Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow,” says Environment Canada.
A winter storm warning is in place for the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt with 30 cm of snow possible.
Highway 3, from Hope to Princeton, is under a special weather statement calling for freezing rain starting on Tuesday, into Wednesday morning.
A wind warning has been issued for the North Coast with gusts up to 90 km/h expected.
Other parts of the province, including the Shuswap, are under a special weather statement calling for 10 to 15 cm of snow.
