A family of ducks successfully crossed a busy B.C. highway thanks to the kindness of two men.
Carlos Altamirano was at the intersection of Lougheed Highway and 203 Street in Maple Ridge on April 15 around 4 p.m. when he noticed two men at the corner.
“I didn’t know what they were doing,” he told Glacier Media.
Then to his surprise, he saw more than 10 ducks and a mother duck on the road. The two men stepped onto the busy highway and put out their hands blocking traffic so the ducklings had a safe path.
“Suddenly, when the red light changed, they stopped part of the traffic to help the animals,” said Altamirano. “It was super nice.”
He captured the special moment on video, which shows a man in a green T-shirt and another one in a black T-shirt walking on either side of the family as they scurried along.
“Those babies would have died without the folk's help,” said Altamirano.
He doesn't think the men knew each other, but that they came together to get the ducks to safety.
The mother duck and the ducklings quickly hurried across the road, over a median and across the other side of the highway.
Altamirano said it took only a minute for them to successfully get across Highway 7.
