Ready, set, vote!

For anyone itching to cast their ballot sooner rather than later, the wait is over.

Advance voting for the federal election opens this Friday, Oct. 11, and continues Saturday, Oct. 12; Sunday, Oct. 13 and Monday, Oct. 14.

Advance polls are open across the North Shore from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Approximately 25 advance polls will be open on those days across the North Shore, according to Elections Canada.

There’s a catch though – for advance polls, voters can only vote at their assigned polling station.

Voters can find the address of their assigned polling station on the back of their voter information card, by visiting elections.ca and punching in their postal code or by calling 1-800-463-6868.

Voters must bring identification that verifies their name and address. That includes either government-issued ID (such as a driver’s licence) with both name and address or identification from the list of accepted ID available online.

For those who won’t be able to vote on either the federal election day, Oct. 21, or in the advance polls, there are other options.

Voters can vote at any Elections Canada office up until 6 p.m. Oct. 15.

Voters can also register to vote by mail at Elections Canada offices in North Vancouver and West Vancouver until Oct. 15. Elections Canada offices can be found on the second floor of Capilano Mall in North Vancouver, 203-1868 Marine Drive in West Vancouver.

Elections Canada offices are open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

During the last election, about 18 per cent of voters in both North and West Vancouver voted in advance polls.
