CRIER COMMENT: Save the Daze

We sometimes take things for granted in life, until they are gone.

We sometimes take things for granted in life, until they are gone.

How many of us have ambled down to the Cove in late August without giving second thought to: who put together this grand celebration in Panorama Park for us?

Shrieks of laughter from the direction of the midway rides travel on a breeze across the park, as kids hold on to the few remaining carefree days of summer.

Live music plays on the mainstage as families stretch out on the grassy hill and gaze at the waterfront scenery that’s become the backdrop to their lives here.

Also at Deep Cove Daze there is roving entertainment, an artisan alley, food and beverages and the always popular cardboard kayak races at Panorama Beach.

To put on an event of this scale is not cheap and not without volunteer commitment. For 20 years, Musart Cultural Society and a small army of volunteers have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to put on a community event for us.

We commend Tyler Pearson and his team for all the work they do, including applying for grants, rounding up sponsors and curating the entertainment.

Now Pearson is tired and he’s asking for a hand. He desperately needs a dedicated volunteer committee to help get Deep Cove Daze above water.

There’s no shortage of creative humans in the Cove, so we encourage them to get in contact with Pearson and share some event planning ideas. Every little effort helps, and isn’t that what community is all about, coming together as a whole?

See you on Sunday, Aug. 26 in Panorama Park. Bring some change. ■
