• And They Faded into the Landscape – An important figure in Canadian art and printmaking, North Vancouver artist Arnold Shives exhibits seven large-scale mixed media paintings in his most recent exhibition. Shives disrupts his landscapes by playing with spatiality; interspersed with mountains, trees and water are abstract shapes and lines. These graphic elements are informed by Shives’s printmaking practice, as are the textures and areas of relief on the paintings. At times shapes frame or obscure the landscape, other times lines float on the surface of the paintings. They also serve as a reference to topography, leading us like a trail through a forest, offering us multiple perspectives of the landscape simultaneously. Exhibition runs until Nov. 3.

• Rebel Women– To mark this year’s centennial anniversary of the women’s suffrage movement, Deep Cove Stage presents this drama by Dr. Joan Bryans. In early 20th century Britain the front line of the militant suffragettes contained a motley bunch of women. They were called to battle by a diminutive, delicate lady, as battle-scarred and hardened as any soldier. Join these and their fellow rebels as they are swept up in the maelstrom that will alter their lives forever, cause governments to fall, and shape democracy for us all. Rebel Women is a theatre verbatim play: the women’s actual words and songs, which are insightful, sometimes hilarious and always searingly truthful, are used to create the play.
