There were 89 new cases of COVID-19 in the past week - down from the 116 new cases the week before.
Between Sept. 12 and Sept. 18, there were 72 cases in North Vancouver and 17 in West Vancouver, according to information released by B.C.’s Centre for Disease Control.
The number of new cases on the North Shore has also dropped below 100 for the first time in the month since the fourth wave of the pandemic began.
Data shows there has recently been a higher rate of cases in the western part of the City and District of North Vancouver and in the Ambleside area of West Vancouver compared to the upper part of West Vancouver and the eastern and central areas of the District of North Vancouver.
Rates of vaccination on the North Shore are still inching up, very slowly, with between 88 and 92 per cent of people over 12 having received one dose and between 82 and 87 per cent of those fully vaccinated.
Between 77 and 83 per cent of teens between 12 and 17 are fully vaccinated on the North Shore while between 77 and 85 per cent of adults between 18 and 49 have received both shots. Rates of vaccination remain highest in adults over 50.
Provincially, 759 new cases of COVID-19 were reported Wednesday.
Hot spots continue to be in the Interior and Northern health regions, which have recently resulted in patients being airlifted from overwhelmed Northern hospitals to hospitals in the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island. Some elective surgeries have also been cancelled as hospital staff is re-deployed to care for critically ill COVID patients.
Those aged 19 to 39 continue to make up the biggest number of new cases, followed by people aged 40 to 59.
Dr. Bonnie Henry, the province’s medical health officer, has called the fourth wave a pandemic of the unvaccinated.
According to the province, people who were not fully vaccinated recently made up 80 per cent of new cases and 88 per cent of people in hospital with COVID-19.
As of Wednesday, there were 324 people in hospital with COVID-19 and 157 in intensive care.
