An engine problem on the Queen of New Westminster prompted cancellation of seven ferry sailings between Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen on Tuesday.

After offloading passengers on the 6 a.m. sailing from Tsawwassen in Swartz Bay, the vessel travelled back to Tsawwassen without passengers to investigate the problem and begin repairs on the 60-year-old ferry.

Two additional sailings were added: a 6 p.m. sailing out of Swartz Bay and 8 p.m. leaving Tsawwassen.

Sailings cancelled include:

8 a.m. departing Swartz Bay

10 a.m. departing Tsawwassen

12 p.m. departing Swartz Bay

2 p.m. departing Tsawwassen

4 p.m. departing Swartz Bay

6 p.m. departing Tsawwassen

8 p.m. departing Swartz Bay

Other sailings on this route were expected to proceed as planned.

B.C. Ferries said anyone booked on a cancelled sailing will be contacted by its customer service centre for alternate sailings or refunds.
