Man charged with sexual assault, forcible confinement after Campbell River attack

Campbell River RCMP said no further details will be released while the matter is before the court, but the investigation by its major crime unit is continuing.

A 24-year-old man has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, aggravated assault and forcible confinement after a woman was attacked in her Campbell River home.

RCMP responded to a 911 call on Aug. 1 from a woman who said she was being assaulted.

The 44-year-old woman was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, said police.

RCMP arrested the man in connection with the attack and he was held in custody for an initial court appearance the next day.

Police said the victim and the suspect were known to each other.

Maitland Campbell is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on Friday.

Campbell River RCMP said no further details will be released while the matter is before the court, but the investigation by its major crime unit is continuing.
