More than 90,000 British Columbians aged 60 and older will soon be booking COVID-19 vaccine appointments.
The Ministry of Health said in a statement Friday morning that invitations to book the vaccine have begun to go out to residents in this age group, as B.C.’s Get Vaccinated program moves forward.
Under the age-based program, people will receive either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.
Meanwhile, British Columbians aged 18 and up can register in the Get Vaccinated system for their vaccine as of noon on Friday.
Registration is the first step. Once registered, people will be contacted when eligible to book an appointment.
The province also opened up the parallel, pharmacy-based AstraZeneca program to people aged 40 and older earlier this week. That vaccine has since been in high demand with many pharmacies fully booked, and B.C. is running low on supply.
According to the ministry, 1.5 million residents have registered in the Get Vaccinated system since April 6. Over 500,000 have booked their shot.
And, as of Thursday, more than 1.4 million people in B.C. have received their first vaccine dose.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said at Monday’s COVID-19 press conference that B.C. is on track to give everyone dose one by July 1.
