Some Lonsdale Avenue residents got an unwelcome wake-up call last Thursday night when an out-of-control construction truck stopped within inches of an apartment building.
The shuttle buggy truck, which is used to transfer asphalt to pavers, was tooling westbound on the Highway 1 around midnight when its hydraulics failed, according to North Vancouver RCMP spokesman Cpl. Richard De Jong.
The truck, which has an operating weight of approximately 77,000 pounds, came out of gear. The buggy accelerated down the off-ramp, zoomed across Lonsdale Avenue and clipped a tree before coming to rest “within inches” of an apartment building on the 2500 block of Lonsdale, according to De Jong.
No one was hurt and no charges are being considered, according to De Jong.
