Lemons are so versatile. They can be used for many purposes.
I love lemons in the kitchen in clear apothecary jars and in large bowls on kitchen tables. They can replace or complement a flower arrangement as well.
Here's a simple flower arrangement that will add a nice contemporary twist to your next dinner party.
Materials
- 1 large, clear cylinder vase
- 12 large lemons
- 2-3 bunches of yellow flowers
- 1 wet floral foam block
- Sharp knife
Method
Look for yellow flowers such as disbuds, gerbera daisies and roses. These flowers will all lend themselves beautifully to this type of arrangement.
Begin by filling your cylinder halfway with roomtemperature water. Add your lemons to the water and set aside. Using your sharp knife cut the floral foam in half and carve it into the shape of a ball.
Soak the floral foam in room-temperature water for 30 minutes until it is thoroughly saturated. Once the floral foam is satisfactorily saturated, remove it from the water.
Clip the stems from the yellow flowers approximately one to two inches from the base and insert the stems into the wet floral foam. Continue until the ball is completely covered and you cannot see the foam from the outside. Gently place the ball on top of the cylinder filled with the lemons.
The wet floral foam will keep the flowers fresh for at least 24 hours.
Run the flower ball under tap water to re-soak it for lasting results. Place on a side table or in the centre of your dining table.
