West Vancouver Fire and Rescue members have pulled a pooch from a plummet predicament in Cypress Falls Park.
In a social media message posted by the crew’s union Sunday afternoon (Feb. 27), they describe the effort it took to retrieve 36-kilogram poodle-cross Chumlee after he fell down a nine-metre embankment.
“West Vancouver Engine 3, 4, 5 and Rescue 1 attended and performed a high-angle rescue. Chumlee is now safe and reunited with the owners,” the message stated, just before 2 p.m.
Cypress Falls Park can be a perilous place for pooches. In April 2021, a Newfoundland was killed after being swept over the falls.
“Be mindful of the environment. Our parks are amazing. They're great to be enjoyed by all, including dogs, but we're seeing time and time again where dogs are getting away and getting themselves into situations where it's quite dangerous to the dog walker or the owner and to rescuers as well,” said assistant chief Garrith Michael, at the time.
In February of 2021, crews pulled a Rottweiler named Boss from the creek. In September of 2020, crews performed a high-angle rescue for a canine that broke loose from a professional dog walker, and in February of that year, they were in the creek for a Labrador named Houston.
