50 new COVID cases reported on North Shore

New COVID cases dropped by 25 per cent this week

​​The number of new COVID cases on the North Shore is continuing to fall.

There were 50 new cases of COVID-19 on the North Shore in the past week – 17 fewer than the 67 cases reported the week before.

Between Oct. 24 and Oct. 30 there were 38 cases in North Vancouver and 12 in West Vancouver, according to information released by B.C.’s Centre for Disease Control.

Data from the B.C. CDC shows rates of daily cases have fallen in all areas of the North Shore. They range from 0 daily cases per 100,000 in the eastern part of the District of North Vancouver and Bowen Island/Lions Bay to five new daily cases per 100,000 in the western part of the District of North Vancouver and in the lower part of West Vancouver.

Positivity rates for COVID-19 tests on the North Shore range from 0 to four per cent.

Rates of vaccination on the North Shore haven’t budged much, with between 90 and 94 per cent of people over 12 already having received one dose and between 87 and 91 per cent of those fully vaccinated as of Nov. 2.

Between 87 and 91 per cent of teens between 12 and 17 are fully vaccinated on the North Shore while between 85 and 91 per cent of adults between 18 and 49 have received both shots. Rates of vaccination remain highest in adults over 50 with between 89 and 91 per cent fully vaccinated.

There are currently two outbreaks of COVID-19 declared in North Shore seniors homes - one at Amica's Lions Gate seniors' home in West Vancouver and one at Amica's Edgemont seniors' home.

Provincially, 430 new cases of COVID-19 were reported Wednesday. A total of 137 people were in intensive care in hospital.

In the past week, about 72 per cent of hospitalizations in the province were among people not vaccinated.
