Taxes in the District of North Vancouver are going up by an average of three per cent, but exactly how the hike will be applied to various property classes has yet to be determined.

The tax hike is “the pie,” Mayor Richard Walton said at Monday’s council meeting, explaining the municipality will determine “exactly how the pie’s cut” in April. A few councillors noted recent fluctuations in the value of commercial and industrial land while giving their budget third reading.

Items in the 2018 budget include $14 million for the Lions Gate community centre design and shell, paid with developer contributions. Developer charges are also set to cover nearly all of the $2.86-million upgrade of Seylynn Park and 11 per cent of the cost of the proposed artificial turf field at Inter River park.

Out-of-pocket expenses include $468,000 to replace golf equipment and $2 million for a new fire hall in Maplewood.

The final budget must be adopted before May 15.
