Firefighters are trying to determine the cause of a bizarre blaze that engulfed a parked car in an underground parkade in Upper Lonsdale Monday morning.
A 1986 Land Rover that had been parked for a week burst into flames shortly after 10 a.m., according to City of North Vancouver fire Chief Dan Pistilli. Following a flurry of 911 calls, a city fire truck rolled to the parking lot on the 2100 block of Eastern Avenue to find the sprinklers working and the SUV “fully involved,” Pistilli said.
After residents of the building opened the gate to let them in, crews knocked the fire down in about 10 minutes, preventing the blaze from spreading to the car parked next to the Land Rover.
The fire appeared to start in the car’s interior, according to Pistilli. While the cause has yet to be determined, the fire is not considered suspicious, he said.
“We’re not worried at this point that there’s any kind of malicious intent,” Pistilli said.
