Both the District and City of North Vancouver handed out their annual Heritage Awards in February to coincide with B.C. Heritage Week, which took place Feb. 15-21.
In the district, there were four recipients for heritage advocacy: Donna Sacuta for the Blair Rifle Range Historical Research; The North Vancouver Museum and Archives for the exhibit Walter Draycott and the Great War; Dave Obee for his book Fifty! With a Fabulous Future: A History of the District of North Vancouver Public Library; and Squamish Nation Education, Squamish Language Elders and Dr. Peter Jacobs for their Squamish-English dictionary.
Meanwhile, the city presented heritage plaques to six protected heritage homes: Residence at 254 East Keith Rd.; Baker Residence at 650 West Keith Rd.; The Aberdeen Block at 88-90 Lonsdale Ave.; The Commercial Block at 277-279 East 8th St.; The McEwan Residence at 346 East 8th St.; and The Pain Residence at 217 East Keith Rd. The plaques are handed out in co-ordination with the North Vancouver Museum and Archives.
The city presented its Heritage Awareness Award of Honour to A.L. (Dick) Lazenby in recognition of his voluntary research efforts on the early development of the North Shore and the donation of his research to the North Vancouver Museum and Archives. The city's Residential Heritage Conservation Award was handed out to Nancy Henderson, Helen Bing and Carol Botting to recognize their voluntary protection and conservation of the Young/Henderson Residence at 1753 Grand Boulevard.
The District of West Vancouver handed out a Heritage Award to Dave Barker of the West Vancouver Historical Society as part of its annual Community Awards last fall.
